Las 'If Sentences' u 'oraciones condicionales' son oraciones que indican que si sucede x condición, seguramente (o probablemente) sucederá x consecuencia. Dependiendo de la seguridad con la que la consecuencia suceda es el tipo de oración que usaremos.
Hoy veremos las If Sentences del tipo II.
'If I won the lottery I would buy a new house'
'Si ganara la lotería, compraría una nueva casa'
Usamos el pasado simple para hablar de la condición 'If I won the lottery' y usamos would + verbo infinitivo para hablar de la consecuencia 'I would buy a new house'.
Al utilizar el condicional del tipo II damos la idea de algo que es poco probable que suceda en el futuro o puede ser que nos estemos refiriendo a una idea hipotética.
'If I were you, I would go on a diet'
Nota: Fíjate que en este tipo de oración condicional es común usar 'were' en lugar de 'was' con las personas I, he, she, it.
